Practice

Research matters to me most when it stays close to people.

Alongside my academic work, I take part in student organising, research communities and volunteering. I care about the everyday work of listening, bringing people together and helping shared spaces grow with a little more care.

Working within academic communities

  1. ongoing

    Higher Degree Research Representative

School of Media and Communication, RMIT University

    May 2024 to present

I represent HDR students in conversations with the School and help keep communication moving between students and staff. I also bring students together across disciplines through events, seminars and shared initiatives.

  2. ongoing

    Treasurer

RMIT Media & Communications HDR Club

    July 2024 to present

I look after the club’s budgets and financial records, and help plan resources for events, seminars and student initiatives. It is quiet work behind the scenes, but it helps collective activities happen.

    Member

    Digital Ethnography Research Centre, Melbourne

    March 2024 to present

I am a member of the Digital Ethnography Research Centre, a research community I have been part of since beginning my PhD in Melbourne.

Care, communication and community

  1. Uniting Fitzroy Op Shop

    2026 to present

I help with the everyday life of the shop, including serving customers at the register, sorting donations, preparing and displaying items, supporting social media and helping with the shop’s visual presentation.

  2. Rainbow Volunteer Club

    January 2024 to present

I correspond with girls attending secondary school in under-resourced communities in western China. Through our letters, I answer their questions and offer support as they navigate school and everyday life.

  3. Wuhan 2020 Community

    January 2021 to February 2021

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I translated psychological support illustrations and helped with Russian-language social media outreach. It was a small way of making care and public information more accessible across languages.

  4. Summer Camp of Confucius Institute

    July 2019 to August 2019

I accompanied visiting students from Russia and Egypt during their study visit in China. I helped them navigate practical questions, unfamiliar surroundings and the many small things involved in living and studying in another country.
